Two New Taiwan Education Centers in India

Two tertiary educational institutions in India—Karpagam Academy of Higher Education (Karpagam) in Coimbatore and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar)—have each signed an MOU with the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, to establish a Taiwan Education Centre (TEC). Both educational institutions are located in cities with state-of-the-art infrastructure and thriving industries.
There are currently 28 Taiwan Education Centers at educational institutions in India working with the Education Division. These centers promote Mandarin Chinese language teaching, and academic collaboration and exchanges between India and Taiwan.
A Mandarin teacher from Taiwan will arrive at each of the institutions in August. As well as conducting language classes for the students, the teachers will offer customized short-term programs and Mandarin Chinese courses, and facilitate bilateral relations with Taiwan through academic visits, student exchanges, and faculty exchanges.
Karpagam Academy of Higher Education which was established in 2008 has already worked with many universities in Taiwan, including Ming Chi University of Technology, National Changhua University of Education, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
IIT Gandhinagar which was also established in 2008 was the first campus in India to be awarded the highest 5-star GRIHA LD rating, for minimizing its negative impact on the environment. It has recently started courses teaching East Asian Languages; on the Korean language in 2022, and this year it will set up Mandarin Chinese courses with the assistance of the teachers soon arriving from Taiwan.
