Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun on Tuesday received a Japanese delegation led by Suzuki Keisuke, House of Representatives member and chair of the Liberal Democratic Party's Taiwan Policy Review Project Team. The vice premier said creating a secure and reliable industrial supply chain will be crucial to the future restructuring of the global supply chain. Taiwan and Japan are already important partners in the technology industry, and Taiwan looks forward to continuing to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in areas such as net-zero technology, smart health care and artificial intelligence.

Vice Premier Cheng pointed out the inaugural meeting of a new Executive Yuan-led economic development commission, chaired by Premier Cho Jung-tai, will take place on July 18 focusing on three main areas: Innovative Economy, Balanced Taiwan, and Inclusive Growth. The Executive Yuan team has also put forward its new strategy to accelerate cooperation with likeminded democratic nations in the fields of technology, economics, trade and diplomacy, in order to maintain the status quo of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and the Taiwan Strait.

In his remarks, Representative Suzuki said that Taiwan can be considered a world leader in the field of semiconductors. He cited the example of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), which possesses the most cutting-edge semiconductor technology and has invested in the construction of a new fabrication plant in Japan. Moving forward, Representative Suzuki hopes Taiwan and Japan can grow together in the spirit of mutual coexistence and shared prosperity.
