Since 2017, Taiwan and Indonesia have been working together to establish a platform for industry cooperation and exchange. Over the past six years, with the guidance of the Industrial Development Administration, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan and Taiwan co-organizer:the Chinese National Federation of Industries, the "Industrial Collaboration Forum" have facilitated substantial cooperation in areas of Shipbuilding, Industry 4.0, Good Biotechnology and Internet of Things Even during the COVID pandemic period , the industries of both countries kept tied interactions, generating concrete collaboration cases and fostering international cooperation opportunities.
The 2023 Taiwan-Indonesia Industrial Collaboration Forum, held in Bogor, Indonesia, on October 30, is the first physical meeting coming over numerous obstacles, since the pandemic outbreaks. More than 217 representatives were gathering from Taiwan and Indonesia's business, government, academic, and research institutions to discuss long-term cooperation opportunities and collaboration models so as to scope expansion of industrial cooperation and fostering international exchanges.
Hosted by Indonesia, the forum declared official opening with a retrospective video film featuring of every milestone and highlights of 6 past anniversaries. Vice Minister Chuan-Neng Lin of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, convener Yin Ming Yang of the Chinese National Federation of Industries, and Ambassador to Indonesia, John C. Chen from Taiwan delivered speeches, encouraging continuing collaboration between the two nations. Representatives from both countries' overseas offices and government departments also confirmed promising support to forum's activities.
Vice Minister Chuan-Neng Lin expressed gratitude for establishing a robust industry exchange platform between Indonesian Ministry of Industry and Taiwan. Minister Lin emphasized the fruitful outcomes of this platform and was looking h go forward to hosting the forum in Taiwan next year. He also hoped that both sides could overcome cooperation barriers and continued promote substantial exchanges, advancing creative cooperation and broadening global economic perspectives.
Regarding specific industrial collaboration, this year's forum continued to feature sub-forums in four key areas: "Shipbuilding," "Industry 4.0," "Food Biotechnology," and "Internet of Things and Electronics." Four cooperation memorandums were signed. For instance, Taiwan's Aeroprobing Inc. and Indonesia's Protechma Indonesia cooperated in expanding the Indonesian market by providing drone technology and services, assisting Indonesia in agricultural spraying and pest identification, thereby, enhancing agricultural productivity. Furthermore, CSBC Corporation of Taiwan, and Indonesia's Kampuh Welding Indonesia collaborated to address the labor shortage in Taiwan's shipbuilding industry by recruiting technicians with shipyard experience or relevant qualifications from Indonesia. Additionally, the Food Industry Research and Development Institute, in partnership with Indonesian companies PT Belfoods and PT Great Giant Pineapple, signed MoUs to leverage Taiwan's technological capabilities and Indonesia's local resources for developing opportunities in meat and fruit and vegetable food products, strengthening the food industry's value chain and ecosystem. These signed cooperation agreements aim to further strengthen and diversify collaboration and development with various industries in Indonesia.
The Taiwan-Indonesia Industrial Collaboration Forum is a integral to Taiwan's New Southbound Policy. The subsequent efforts related to the forum will primarily involve private sector industries, promoting the establishment of the Asia-Pacific industrial platform and substantial cooperation among nations. Information integration and connections are expected to foster a stronger relationship between Taiwan and Indonesia and lead Taiwan's industries into the Asia-Pacific market.
