The 2nd meeting of the Joint Committee on the Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA) between Taiwan and Eswatini was held virtually on August 24, 2022. Both sides focused on promoting bilateral economic and trade relations through the ECA.
The meeting was co-chaired by Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Mei-Hua Wang, and Eswatini’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo. The highlight of discussions were market access and Eswatini’s trade in services development in relation with third parties.
Taiwan and Eswatini also shared views that could create more business opportunities through cooperation, including further promotion of Eswatini’s products via Taiwan’s international trade shows, and assisting Eswatini’s businesses in expanding global markets through e-commerce training courses.
Since the Taiwan-Eswatini ECA took effect in 2018, the economic relations between the two countries have deepened and bilateral trade has grown rapidly. In 2021, bilateral trade totaled US$17.9 million, a growth of 136% compared to 2017.
