The Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange (TCX) and the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), Ministry of Agriculture, held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony on July 13, 2026, announcing their joint commitment to promote Taiwan's soil carbon development. The MoU was formally signed by TCX Chairman Sherman Lin and TARI Director General Dr. Dennis Wang, and witnessed by Dr. Ling-Yi Tsai, Director General of the Climate Change Administration, Ministry of Environment, and Dr. Hsin-Ta Huang, Director of the Department of Resource Sustainability, Ministry of Agriculture. The MoU will accelerate the promotion of soil carbon projects, capacity building, and market adoption.
Net-Zero Sustainability, Resilient Co-Prosperity
Dr. Wang underscored TARI's enduring commitment to soil management, carbon sequestration technologies and methodology research. TARI hopes this collaboration will deliver training and technical guidance to help enterprises adopt core soil carbon practices, transforming agricultural decarbonization into scalable and sustainable action.
TCX Chairman Sherman Lin remarked that soil carbon has joined forest carbon as a key focus in corporate nature-based strategy. As Taiwan actively develops the Taiwan Emissions Trading System (TW ETS) alongside robust domestic voluntary emission reduction programs, this collaboration will help build a science-based, market-driven, and talent-cultivation Nature-based Solutions ecosystem.
Nature-based Solutions Drive Corporate Net-Zero Transition
During the ceremony, TARI Researcher Dr. Chi-Ling Chen and TCX CEO Ms. Seren Chen shared insights on soil carbon developments and global trends. Dr. Chen highlighted Taiwan’s localized "Improved Agricultural Land Management Methodology," approved by the Ministry of Environment in March 2025. Referred to Verra’s VM0042 standard, this framework focuses on increasing soil organic carbon. This methodology serves as a key guide for soil carbon measurement and provides domestic enterprises with a practical pathway to develop soil carbon projects.
TCX CEO Ms. Seren Chen highlighted that TWSE has officially incorporated Nature-based Solutions into its ESG evaluation indicators for TWSE/TPEx listed companies. She also noted that under the "Taiwan Nature-Based Solutions & Sustainability Initiative," TCX and TWSE are actively promoting a soil carbon project in Yunlin. Moving forward, TCX aims to partner with TARI to strengthen market mechanisms and professional training, effectively guiding corporate resources into sustainable farming to drive long-term corporate sustainability.
