To safeguard the environment and address the global climate change challenges, the Hsinchu City Government is actively promoting sustainable urban development. The Bureau of Environmental Protection announced that 36 companies within its jurisdiction are legally required to conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories and registration. These companies completed their reports by April 30, following the “Regulations for the Management of Inventory and Registration of Greenhouse Gas Emissions.” This milestone marks a significant step in local enterprises’ commitment to carbon management and serves as a cornerstone in Hsinchu’s journey toward a net-zero future. It is also the key to building a net-zero green life.
Acting Mayor Chiu Chen-Yuan emphasized the critical importance of GHG inventories in addressing the impacts of global climate change and achieving the 2050 net-zero emissions goal. Through a complete and systematic inventory, not only can we have a clear understanding of the various sources of emissions and their emissions but also serve as a basis for the subsequent development of energy saving and carbon reduction strategies and policy planning. In order to strengthen the greenhouse gas management capability of enterprises, the city government has implemented diverse measures such as workshops, awareness campaigns, and on-site guidance, offering technical support and administrative assistance to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability.
According to the Bureau of Environmental Protection, there are 36 emission sources that should be registered and inspected for GHG emissions under the jurisdiction of the city. The industries are diverse, including semiconductors, LCD panels, paper manufacturing, glass containers, chemical materials, and electronic components. These sectors hold a significant position in both domestic and international supply chains. Implementing carbon management is not only a crucial step toward environmental sustainability but also closely tied to the international competitiveness of the companies.
