The National Development Council (NDC), with the strong support from the USA, the APEC 2023 host economy, held the “ 2023 APEC Forum on Creating New Employment Opportunities in the Era of Net-Zero Economy” on May 17 (CST) , with the aim of facilitating the discussion on green job promotion strategies among APEC member economies. With over 50 participants from 17 member economies, this forum has successfully strengthened Chinese Taipei’s contribution to the work of APEC Human Resource Development Working Group (HRD WG) and demonstrated our soft power in formulating the green job policies.
This forum started with the welcome remarks of Lead Shepard, coordinators and co-chairs of Labor and Social Protection Network (LSPN) and Capacity Building Network (CBN). Four distinguished speakers are invited, including Jennifer (JJ) Rosenbaum, the Executive Director of the Global Labor Justice (USA); Lucia del Rosario Espezua Berrios, Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (Peru); Professor Huang Chung-Huang, National Ching Hua University and Dr Wu Po-Kuan, Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research. The topics of the presentations were ‘Creating New Employment Opportunities in the Era of Net-Zero Economy’, ‘Towards the creation of new job opportunities in green jobs in Peru’, ‘Strategic policies toward net-zero transition and the impacts on labor market’ and ‘Trend of Green Jobs & Corporates Practices in Chinese Taipei’. In the panel discussion, Russia, Malaysia, South Korea, the US, Peru, New Zealand, Australia and Canada delegates shared their labor market policies and viewpoints on the issues of green jobs promotion and Just Transition. The event aims to enhance APEC inclusive growth and capacity building with the knowledge of SDGs, and to echo the US APEC host year 2023 priorities of “Interconnected, Innovative and Inclusive.”
Against the backdrop of inclusive growth and the development of green economy in the Asia-Pacific region, NDC is to make continuous efforts to develop human resources for green growth and promote Just Transition. In addition, we will share the outcomes of the 12 Key Strategies Action Plan under the 2050 Net-Zero Transition roadmap with international partners to consolidate international cooperation and exchange.
